Celebrating five decades in business, South Wales-based Sigma 3 Kitchens is marking its 50th anniversary with a bold £20 million investment aimed at scaling its operations and driving future growth.
Founded in Barry in 1975 as a family-run kitchen manufacturer, Sigma 3 has grown into a national brand. Today, the company operates five showrooms across South Wales and one in Surrey. It’s also the name behind the renowned Masterclass Kitchens brand, supplying independent kitchen retailers across the UK. Sigma 3 also supports trade professionals and property developers through its dedicated B2B divisions.
A key milestone in this anniversary year is the company’s ongoing £20 million investment programme, which is set to triple manufacturing capacity and expand total production space to 200,000 square feet. This major upgrade will enhance Sigma 3’s ability to meet rising demand and support continued innovation.
With a team of over 230 staff, the business remains firmly rooted in South Wales, where all manufacturing takes place. The company describes the investment as a “clear commitment to futureproofing our operations and maintaining a competitive edge in the evolving kitchen market.”
Chairman and Founder Brian Lakin said:
“Reaching our 50-year milestone is a proud achievement for everyone at Sigma 3. Our journey has been defined by constant evolution, and it’s the dedication and talent of our people that has driven our success. This investment sets the stage for the next chapter—helping us serve our customers even better and continue leading the industry.”
South Wales-based Sigma 3 Kitchens have 6 kitchen and bedroom showrooms across South Wales and Surrey, namely in Abergavenny, East Cardiff, West Cardiff, Llantrisant, Newport, Swansea and Esher in Surrey, 10 miles from London Heathrow airport.
Celebrating 50 years in business is certainly an amazing milestone for founder Brian Lakin, whom after leaving school in 1972, he began working as a cabinet maker in Barry, South Wales. Brian started Sigma 3 in January 1975 and the business had attained its first premises in 1976 in Barry.
With an expansion in Swansea in 1982 and Cardiff a year later, the business went from strength to strength and by 1987 Sigma 3 needed to keep up with ever-growing demand, so the business expanded into a larger manufacturing facility in Llantrisant, which is the very site where their factory still thrives today, 48 years later.
